I just tried to comment, but I’m not sure it worked. It was really interesting to hear what Rita thought of Jamie Oliver and the call for good food in schools. I just looked at two case studies from other schools in Birmingham on the School Food Trust website here: http://www.schoolfoodtrust.org.uk/casestudy-detail.asp?caseid=114 and http://www.schoolfoodtrust.org.uk/casestudy-detail.asp?caseid=113 Perhaps you could find out from students at those schools what they think of their meals. One case study talks about how introducing healthy food needed to be gradual. I’m sure it will take effort I was watching the film ‘Super Size Me’ the other day - and that talks about how millions of pounds are spent advertising junk food to young people - so introducing healthy food when all that negative advertising is going on will definitely need commitment for it to happen - but it’s massively important that it does. There is quite a lot of evidence to suggest that people’s diet affects their learning and their behavior. It could even be that the changes in behavior Rita mentions are down to the changes in meals, and the fact they have got a lot less healthy and a lot more full of fat and sugar… What do you reckon?

Another interesting interview. I could have listened to more. I was interested to know more about how the kitchen works, how much control Rita has and how the finances work. I look forward to hearing more from the staff.

Rita is really interesting to listen to. Its particularly good to hear her overview of how the school has changed over the last 24 years. Is there anyone else who has worked here for a long time. It might be interesting to gather other people’s points of view on how the school has changed and developed. Post a comment
