The Beast in the Beeches

Filed under: The Beeches Beast, Our recordings — Reaside Year 5 @ 11:33 am

Hello. Welcome to our blog. This is where we will share what we are learning with the theatre group Stan’s cafe. This is our first post. If you listen to the mp3 file you’ll hear our first work on trying out editing the sounds we have collected.

We had to record the sound, listen to it then decide how we wanted to use it. We then created layers of sounds to make it the way you can hear it.

This one is a short extract from a trip to Frankley Beeches - a hillside near our school. It is the first entry in our podcast.
We were checking out rumours that a beast had been seen on the hill.

Kill the Monster

Filed under: The Beeches Beast, Our recordings — Reaside Year 5 @ 11:43 am

This is some more editing. In it we start to describe what the monster might be and what we should do about it. We found that different sounds create different effects and you dont have to know what made the sound to think about how you can use it.

We also found that if you have missed recording a bit, you can go and record it again when you are editing. You just have to make sure that the background noise is the same. So if your original recording was outside then the new bit needs to be outside.

The editing was quite quick once we had managed to get our school computers to recognise the software we were using.

WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING

Filed under: Frankleytalk website — Grown ups @ 4:20 pm

Over the past few weeks we have been building a website about all the things Reaside Junior School have done e.g. the kite day’s, black maze and the river Rea walk.

We have been looking at some websites so we can get a good idea on what themes we should use on our website.

We have found a name for our website which is   www.frankleytalk.com

We came up with a lot of names but we chose frankleytalk.

We also looked at websites for pictures and themes.

We made a blog so we can tell you how we are getting on so you know when we are finished our website.

The Farmhouse at Frankley

Filed under: The Beeches Beast, Our recordings — Reaside Year 5 @ 5:20 pm

On our trip to Frankley Beeches we met a man - the woodsman - who told us that strange things had been happening at a farmhouse. This is something we recorded about the farmhouse. We edited the material and then added different sound effects which we had recorded at the Beeches.

“Where are you Luke”

Filed under: The Beeches Beast, Our recordings — Reaside Year 5 @ 5:26 pm

The woodsman we met on Frankley Beeches helped us to find Luke - who had gone missing during our hunt for the Beast of Frankley Beeches. We edited the sounds we recorded to create this small part of our radio programme about our hunt for the beast.

What we like so much about this is the way Luke acted in his part. He sounds just like you would think someone would sound if they had got lost, been attacked by a monster, managed to escape and then found some friendly people to help him.

We think Luke did a brilliant job. Please listen and decide if you agree.

A beast of a thing

Filed under: The Beeches Beast, Our recordings — Reaside Year 5 @ 1:02 am

This our very rough first edit of the story of the Beast of Frankley Beeches.

What we have done is taken some of the material we recorded when we visited the beeches and put it in order to make a story. Next we need to write some script which will help the story work for the listeners, record that, add it to the edit then work out all the different sound levels and think about how we can use sound effects to improve what you hear.
This is a spooky story - so after that we will want to do more with the music. Let us know what you think of the little peice of music you can hear in this.

Wendy Scattergood Street

Filed under: Wendy Scattergood, Our recordings — Reaside Year 5 @ 11:54 pm

We have been working on a story for the podcast about street names in Frankley. We noticed that many of the streets were named after people from the Royal Family and started to think about who we would like to name a street after. We chose Wendy Scattergood - who’s the nan of one of the boys in year five.

Please listen to a song we’ve worked on for part of the podcast and then tell us if you’ve know anyone like Mrs Scattergood who you could name a street after.
