Frankley Talk meets Rita the school cook at Frankley Commuity High [4:17m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download
Welcome to another podcast. This time year 9 at Frankley Community High interview Martin Nangoli who visited us to tell us about life in his home village of Kikobero in Uganda. To listen just click on the arrow below or you can download the mp3 by clicking here. We have been helping Martin send children from his village to school. As you can see from the photo we have been raising money through a non-uniform day and also a cake sale.
As part of the same conference where we met Soweto Kinch we also played our work to a room full of people and talked to them about the podcasting project. We showed one of them (Hugh - thank you) the basics of podcasting and he interviewed us about what we had learned. This is the end result.
Earlier today four students from year 9 met the international jazz musician Soweto Kinch at a conference of people who work for Creative Partnerships. It was part of the podcast project we’d been working on last week. We played some of our podcasts to Soweto and listened to some of his music from his album about Birmingham “B19″. Then we recorded an interview with him where he encouraged us to be creative and told us we don’t have to leave either Frankley or Birmingham to be succesful.
This is the first Podcast from Frankley Community High School. It’s a short radio drama which tells about one boys determination to avoid getting his “tenth pink slip”. What is a pink slip you ask? It’s the form the police give you when you are young and in trouble. Ten of them means you get a day in court. This was produced, composed and performed by students from year nine with help from Stans Cafe Theatre company. We have been working on a story for the podcast about street names in Frankley. We noticed that many of the streets were named after people from the Royal Family and started to think about who we would like to name a street after. We chose Wendy Scattergood - who’s the nan of one of the boys in year five. Please listen to a song we’ve worked on for part of the podcast and then tell us if you’ve know anyone like Mrs Scattergood who you could name a street after. This our very rough first edit of the story of the Beast of Frankley Beeches. What we have done is taken some of the material we recorded when we visited the beeches and put it in order to make a story. Next we need to write some script which will help the story work for the listeners, record that, add it to the edit then work out all the different sound levels and think about how we can use sound effects to improve what you hear. We have now made a rough edit for the Run Away story, which is one of four story we hope to finish by the end of the summer term. Please have a listen, but remember we have not finished it yet. The woodsman we met on Frankley Beeches helped us to find Luke - who had gone missing during our hunt for the Beast of Frankley Beeches. We edited the sounds we recorded to create this small part of our radio programme about our hunt for the beast. What we like so much about this is the way Luke acted in his part. He sounds just like you would think someone would sound if they had got lost, been attacked by a monster, managed to escape and then found some friendly people to help him. We think Luke did a brilliant job. Please listen and decide if you agree. On our trip to Frankley Beeches we met a man - the woodsman - who told us that strange things had been happening at a farmhouse. This is something we recorded about the farmhouse. We edited the material and then added different sound effects which we had recorded at the Beeches. |
